The best way to prevent spam is to use Akisemt (which comes with WordPress) and turn on comment moderation. You can stop 100% of spam with that no problems at all.

yes there is processing going on.
probably your internet is slow, computers old and needs updates of all, explorers quality is a bit bad, or maybe there’s a virus.

some websites needs some refresh or it takes too long than the others.. might be because it has more bytes or it owns a big space and needs time to load it properly.
