The Eiffel Tower is having a make-over?!?

http://kosmopolit.wordpress.com/2008/03/24/the-new-eiffel-tower/

What’s your opinion? Do you like it? Do you think it’s good or bad to change a national icon? I personally an offended, and I don’t even live in Paris.

Well it does look different, i don’t hate it but everyone is used to the classic eiffel tower. It is an attempt to get more people to visit paris. I think they should make another tower somewhere else in Paris.

However, it does not say the addition will be added to the tower. It is an idea it might not happen

WordPress List Categories With Images

wordpress-powered portfolio site?

planning to use wordpress for my portfolio divided into categories like ILLUSTRATION, GRAPHIC DESIGN, MOTION GRAPHICS. do you think it’s better to enter my portfolio pieces as a POST or as a PAGE? also do i categorize my portfolio entries using the category or entry tags? for example, if a user clicks on “ILLUSTRATION”, i want all entries filed under illustration to list on the page.

for now i’m fine with settling for a text link to link to a entries’ individual pages but in the future i might also want a thumbnail listing instead of a text link. how do i do that? i imagine i do that by way of custom fields (upload a custom thumbnail image?)?

so basically to compress this question:
1. which is better– post or page?
2. category or tags?
3. how to make thumbnail listings?

most of it is just personal preference.

1.) i would say post. since you can put it in a category so when people select that category everything will show up.

2.) categories tend to work better than tags since you can alway s tag something and you might have images overlap into other categories.

3.) I do believe wordpress has plugins for flicker and image hosting sites like that if you want to look into that. wordpress does have some very nice image plugins too that you can look into.

A New Era In Blogging – The Future Of WordPress

In the part of the decade, the online world was fused to a new form of authors. These were the first crusaders of blogging. It was not long before WordPress blogs started showing up all over the world. With its powerful website CMS that enabled better blogging systems and a more intuitive interface, WordPress soon become the blogging software of choice.

WordPress was often just seen as blogging software. Few seen it as anymore than just a way to post a few personal notes. It was basically the first twitter. But an increasing number of marketers are finding that you can also use to create a tremendous amount of money in a very short amount of time. The most powerful function of WordPress lies in its ability to manage large amounts of text, audio and video content. After a dozen pages it becomes difficult to manage a static HTML site. Although you can use template-driven software as well like SBI or DreamWeaver, nothing beats the ease of WordPress. When it comes to ease of use, you will find no other software that can beat it.

In its native form, it does come with some useful tools and you can find a lot of useful free plugins that can increase it usefulness. Yet there is nothing that can come close to using premium blogging tools which easily transform the creation of a static website, an article directory, a WordPress based membership site system, a complete e-commerce site, an auction sites, a portfolio site and so much more. As a matter of fact you can also just about use it for anything. SEO, no worries, there are even premium themes created that can box with the best of them. Google is pleased.

Search Engine Optimization is another important element. By default, WordPress is pretty good at optimizing and creating SEO friendly content. However you can also get more serious and utilize simple WordPress plugins to further increase your SEO rankings and get better Yahoo or Google rankings.

Flexibility is one of its main strengths. Within minutes you can switch between hundreds of themes, plugins and widgets. You can do this all for free. Is there any software on the market that can boast free plugins, themes and widgets?

If you aren’t using WordPress, then I have one questions for you. Why not? The learning curve has reduced substantially in the past 3 years. A newbie can easily setup a blog within minutes. I am not kidding when I say in minutes, because when I first started blogging, I knew nothing about WordPress. It took me about 30 minutes to get my WordPress installed and publish my first post.

2009 and 2010 will be a new era for WordPress. The future of blogging will be WordPress. If you do a search on the internet you will find so many programs and systems that are geared to the success of someone using WordPress. Developers are creating some amazing software that can literally do anything you want with it. No matter your needs or ideas, there is a plugin that can make it happen. Some are paid and others are free, but none the less it can be done and it can be done well.

Effective Use of WordPress

Introduction

WordPress has become one of the most popular blogging packages on the Internet; this is largely due to its ease of use and its object oriented design which allows the user to easily extend its capabilities in the form of WordPress Plugins. The WordPress plugins repository is a high-availability set of development tools — a wiki, version control using Subversion, and bug tracker — that aims to nurture the active WordPress development community.

Plugins

Plugins are tools to extend the functionality of WordPress. Plugins offer custom functions and features so that each user can tailor their site to their specific needs. Plugins are one of the most valuable elements of WordPress as a platform. You can download a fresh version of WordPress with the plugins you select, or just a zip of all your favorite plugins. More and more plugins are starting to use AJAX techniques. For any WordPress user, plugins are essential. Luckily there is already a few plugins out there for that, but sometimes your readers will suggest something that has yet to be implemented as a plugin. Semiologic CMS is a set of plugins and themes for WordPress that work together to turn a WordPress blog into more of a content management system. Each plugin is activated separately, so if you want to use a couple of the plugins, you can do so without running the plugins you don’t want.

Tag

Tags in the Head is a WordPress plugin that attempts to make your website both more machine and human readable by using the ‘Tags’ you specify as META keywords in a page’s header. When using this plugin, you can use the WordPress’ categories as tags — no additional tagging plugin is needed. Some search engines are supposed to love this tag, so I guess we should, too. This plugin is extremely easy to install and it will create a dynamic Meta Description Tag for every page on your blog, based on post excerpts or on the first words of the page.

Video

WP-FLV is a plugin to help you add flash video to your WordPress site. It holds the URL to your Flash Video file. For instance generate a list of video links rather then show the player. It was really easy to get this running, and I think it looks more professional then most of the non-free flash video players. It is easy to simply pop it up, but its hard to specify the sizes of the windows they open in, especially when all the videos have different resolutions.

Ads

Adsense Deluxe allows you to automatically insert Google Adsense with ease. Adsense-Deluxe allows you to test your Adsense styles without having to edit your WordPress templates. There are a lot of ways you can add ads to your WordPress blog. Google Adsense has become the most popular online contextual advertising program. WordPress allows bloggers to easily integrate Google Adsense inside wordpress using plugins.

Social

Social Bookmark Plugin : Make it easy for users to bookmark your posts in del. Socializer is way to submit your post to all of the social bookmark networks at once. It include 37 social bookmark networks (digg, de. Bookmark Me by Denis de BernardyLists links to common social bookmarking sites. This is an excellent way to promote your articles on one of the most popular social bookmarking sites around. This plugin is very useful for handling sudden bursts of traffic coming from social bookmarking sites like Digg and Slashdot. These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages.

Conclusion

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of WordPress plugins available for download. Top 10 Underrated WordPress Plugins those plugins are certainly awesome, but there are many others out there that can be life savers, and people often neglect them.
