WordPress Gallery Lightbox

March 23rd, 2011 admin No comments

What is a good wordpress plugin to add Flickr galleries and functionality to my site?

One which gives me some control over which photos it shows, and a lightbox, would be nice :)

your recommendations = appreciated

Hands down the best WordPress plugin to add Flickr galleries is the Flickr Photo Album WordPress plugin. It has a customizable custom template and has lightbox funtionality. This description below is pulled directly from the WordPress plugin repository.

“This Flickr plugin for WordPress will allow you to pull in your Flickr photosets and display them as albums on your WordPress site. There is a pretty simple template provided which you can customize to 100% match the look and feel of your own site.

The plugin is customizable in a number of different ways. There are options to allow you to hook it up with a number of different Lightbox-style popup overlay display libraries. Third party commenting services such as Disqus are also supported, allowing your visitors to comment on your photos without hopping over to Flickr.com. A simple Flickr widget is also included to let you easily include your photos into your blog’s sidebar.

On the backend, this plugin will add a new Flickr icon to your WordPress edit screen which will allow you to easily insert your Flickr photos and albums into your blog posts with just a couple clicks. You can either have your inserted photos link back to your WordPress Flickr photo album or directly to your Flickr.com photo page.”

This is just an FYI for anyone who wants to create a custom lightbox template that is page specific. For simplicity sake the example names I am using are lightbox.php, lightboxheader.php and lightboxstyle.css. Create a custom template in WordPress called lightbox.php. Create a header file called lightboxheader.php. Create a style sheet for your custom template page called lightboxstyle.css. For the lightbox header and style pages you are just making copies of your themes header.php and style.css files. Change the path names in these files so they work with your custom template. Now this is the key – copy the lightbox css code from the lightbox css plugin file to your newly created lightboxstyle.css file. You now have a fully customized individual template page that you can customize separate from the rest of your WordPress website. A working example of this can be found here >>> http://www.visionsign.net/vision >>> and then click on the Vision Sign News & Events link. You will notice that lightbox.js does not load when you go to the link above – it only loads when you go to the News & Events custom template page.

WordPress How To Use Lightbox

On a website that uses wordpress, can you add an image to a category post?

Hi,

In need of advice here. I know you can add an image or a lightbox to a category post and a page on wordpress-thats very easy and straight forward. However I can seem to add an image to a category….is this possible and if so how?

Many thanks!

It would all depend upon the theme that you’re using. For instance, if the theme you use has a categories feature page such as can be found on the default homepage of the StudioPress Lifestyle theme then you can indeed add an image that is assigned to those feature categories.

For any other theme you’d need to have it coded so that a particular page or category page would have an image called via a php script that would be assigned to the page location via the style.css sheet.
